Protein French Toast

Protein French toast is a delightful twist on the classic breakfast dish that enhances its nutritional profile by simply adding protein powder. This small yet impactful ingredient not only boosts the protein content but also allows for flavor customization! One of my favorite ones to substitute for vanilla is Blueberry Donut protein from Bowmar Nutrition (not sponsored or any affiliate just love the product!).

Whether you’re seeking a dairy-free, gluten-free option, or just want to incorporate more protein into your morning routine, this versatile recipe can easily adapt to fit your specific needs while maintaining the beloved taste of traditional French toast.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of bread of choice

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 egg whites

  • 3/4 cup almond or regular milk

  • 1-2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 cup protein powder (2-3 scoops)

  • 1 tablespoon coconut or other oil

Directions

  1. Whisk eggs in a medium bowl or small baking dish while you heat a pan or griddle. Wait to add the oil until ready to add the toast (otherwise it will brown and burn).

  2. Add the milk, cinnamon and protein powder to the egg mixture and mix well. Now add the oil to the pan or griddle.

  3. Dip one slice at a time, both sides into the mixture. Lay flat on pan or griddle and continue to add as many pieces of bread as will fit.

  4. Flip bread once you start to see the sides firm up or check under with a spatula for browning.

  5. To store, I like to flash freeze these on a baking sheet in the freezer for a few hours. Once cooled and frozen, add to a Ziploc bag and store in freezer. Then pop into the toaster when ready to eat!
